Becoming 6

Aug 16, 2026    Pastor James Wheeler

What does it mean to have a pure heart—and why does Jesus connect purity with seeing God?

In this sixth message of Becoming, we explore the heart as the center of our being, belief, affection, and vision. Our hearts are constantly being invited to give themselves to the things of this world, but Jesus calls us to something deeper: a heart that belongs fully to Him.

Jesus is the lens that opens our eyes to the Father.

Through Christ, our hearts are made new. But we are also called to steward that purity—to watch over our hearts, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and continually seek His face.

As we behold Him, we are transformed into His likeness. And as our vision becomes clearer, we begin to see the world differently. We see people, brokenness, injustice, suffering, and opportunity through the heart of Jesus.

A pure heart doesn't simply help us see God—it changes how we see everything else.

In this message, we explore the connection between purity, holiness, the presence of God, and the transforming power of beholding Jesus. Our goal isn't outward religion or a life of rules, but a surrendered life of sacrificial love that increasingly reflects the One we behold.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10

Lord, purify our hearts. Fix our eyes on Jesus. And let our lives become a clear lens through which the world can see Him.
