Becoming 5

What does it actually mean to be merciful?

In this fifth message of Becoming, we discover that biblical mercy is far more than feeling sorry for someone. Mercy is love in motion—a Spirit-formed compassion that moves toward the brokenness, misery, and spiritual need of others.

And the source of that mercy is not simply human kindness. Jesus Himself is the Merciful One. As our faithful High Priest, He entered into our humanity, carried our sin, and opened the way for us to encounter the mercy of God.

As we become poor in spirit, mourn what breaks God's heart, walk in meekness, and hunger and thirst for righteousness, something begins to form within us: a capacity to carry and release the mercy of the Kingdom.

We don't give mercy in order to earn God's mercy. We give mercy because we have already received it.

In Christ, we are seated in heavenly places, covered by His finished work, and invited to live from the mercy seat rather than from condemnation. And when we become full of His mercy, we overflow.

Kingdom mercy moves toward people. It covers sin. It restores. It calls people into the Kingdom. It creates an environment where people can encounter the goodness of God and begin to flourish.

I

n this message, we explore what it means to become “mercy-full”—to carry the presence of the Merciful One and release His compassion into the world around us.

“Blessed are the merciful…”

Lord, awaken us to Your mercy. Fill us with the Merciful One. And help us become more like Jesus.
